This will be for two specific days since trekking starts at the same time in all gorilla families meaning you can not do it on the same day.

This Rwanda safari offers a rare opportunity to witness the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, nestled within the stunning Virunga Mountains of Volcanoes National Park twice. Your journey begins with a warm welcome in Kigali, where you’ll be greeted by the vibrant culture of Rwanda.

A scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park awaits, offering glimpses of Rwanda’s picturesque landscapes. As you settle into your accommodation, the beauty of the park’s surroundings will captivate you, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience. This means you will have more days in the park enjoying these apes as well as other activities.

Very early in the morning after breakfast, embark on the first gorilla trekking safari expedition. Guided by experienced trackers, you’ll venture into the lush forest, following in the footsteps of these gentle giants. Encountering a habituated gorilla family is a moment of pure magic, as you observe their natural behaviours up close. You will stay with the gorillas for one hour learning how they associate as well as taking photos of your own. After you will descend to pick your trekking certificate, back to lodge for lunch and rest.

You can go for IbyI’wacu cultural tour after your lunch. In this tour, you will visit the community and participate in the day today work these people do like fetching water, digging and learn how to make local brew. You can also attend the community gatherings which will teach you their culture and norms. You will enjoy their cultural dances as well as participating under their guidance. Back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will again go for the second gorilla trek tour with a new gorilla trekking permit. You will be briefed again and join another family of gorillas. You will be assigned a group depending on your level of fitness. Head to the starting point and start the search for the gorillas in another gorilla family. Once you are in contact with the gorillas, you will take one hour witnessing and learning the difference in this family compared to the one you visited the previous day. Descend to pick your trekking certificate then lodge for lunch.

You will also visit the Dian Fossey Museum in Musanze where all the history about Dian Fossey can be retrieved. In this museum, you will find all the old things Fossey was using in the old museum like chairs and tables including the skeletons of the gorillas she recovered after killing them. It is portioned into different rooms where they show case all the history of Dian Fossey. Back to lodge for dinner and overnight.

In the next morning after breakfast, you can go for golden monkey trekking before departure. The time remains the same as for gorillas. Trekking golden monkeys and gorillas is a similar experience – in a small group of no more than eight people, and you can spend one hour with the monkeys once you find them. The endangered species are very active creatures, and jump from tree to tree which is really interesting and a little difficult to photograph! You must also have the permit to take on this activity which goes for $100 paid in advance like mountain gorillas.

Take time at your lodge for refreshment and lunch before you check out for your transfer to Kigali international airport. You will take some time in Kigali then to the airport for your flight back home. This will mark the end of your safari for your two-trek gorilla safari.
